“Dwellings/ Spatial Study” is a research into relationships of architecture and space. It’s a series of collages created from photography taken in various countries between 2017—2022. The photographs of landscapes are combined with photographs of buildings, following modernist doctrines. Each “dwelling” is a rectangular shape that harmoniously integrates into its surroundings, despite originating from an entirely unrelated location. This artistic endeavour delves into the essence of place-making, evoking a sense of belonging and cohesiveness that defies geographical boundaries.

This short film captures the stillness of early winter on a family farm. Located in the dairy state of Wisconsin in the United States, the farm has been partially abandoned, leading to wild flora and fauna populating the landscape of their own accord.

Kiruna, the northernmost city in Sweden, lies beyond the Arctic Circle and spans a vast territory, despite having only about 20,000 inhabitants. The area has historically been inhabited by the Sami people, who practice reindeer transhumance. The landscape is dominated by lakes, ancient hills, and mining infrastructure, while agriculture is nearly impossible due to the harsh climate.

Kiruna is renowned for its massive iron mine—the largest in the world—from which trains loaded with ore depart daily for the port of Narvik. Since 2004, due to the risks associated with mining operations, part of the city has been gradually relocated, with buildings being demolished and rebuilt on the eastern side.
A symbolic and technically remarkable event will be the relocation of the historic wooden church, scheduled for 2025. A similar operation has already taken place in Malmberget, south of Kiruna, where a sinkhole caused by the mine forced the near-total evacuation of the town. The process of urban migration in these cities represents a profound transformation, both materially and in terms of identity.

I come not just to see family, but to feel the touch of frozen time upon my skin: a lone wheel standing still among bare trees, a sandbox nestling in snowdrifts, a ship asleep in the ice. Here in the North, memories don’t fade—they simply gather frost. Yet I know that beneath the snow, the traces of my childhood rest undisturbed, and the cold air will always carry the scent of home.

Before I started to
devote myself full time to my personal work, I spent 40 years in the world of commercial photography.
On to my current images - landscapes. While certainly not working with the same control I had in the advertising world, it provides, in some ways, more. Or perhaps I should say, simply different. What I have found is that I could bring the same vision I used for my commercial work into my landscape work. In fact, I do not think I really had a choice. The work I do now is 100% informed by my experience shooting for clients. I see how I see and, after 40+ years of making photographs, it seems foolish to try and change now. I trust that what I have learned works. I have even brought artificial light into the landscapes! Simple shapes, graphic lines, eliminate clutter. Light when necessary.

Breiðamerkursandur, commonly known as Diamond Beach, is a black sand shoreline in southeastern Iceland. It lies just below the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where icebergs calve from the Vatnajökull glacier. These shimmering chunks of ice wash ashore and scatter across the beach, creating a surreal landscape. The crystal-clear ice against the dark volcanic sand forms a breathtaking natural contrast that draws photographers and visitors from around the world.

Falljökull Glacier, located in southern Iceland, is part of the vast Vatnajökull ice cap. The glacier’s surface is streaked with a blackish coating — a striking reminder of past volcanic eruptions. This ash, settled across the ice, serves as a visible testament to the island’s powerful and ever-active natural forces.

Having spent the last 15 summers traveling through arctic regions, I discovered a deep love for the eternal beauty of icebergs. They possess characteristics of color, shape, line, form, and scale that exist independent of visual references we tend to be familiar with in the natural world. I find them to appear sculpturally magnificent as if crafted in a way that seems too perfect for this world.
